Weekly Tip #3: Connecting To A Wireless Internet Connection
Posted by jkool13 on January 26, 2008

Hello everybody! It’s time for another iPod, Google and More Weekly Tip! This tim
e around we will be showing you how to connect to a wireless inter net connection!
Step 1: Get What You Need
Now, obviously you WILL need a wireless internet connection setup in your house somewhere. If you do, great, if you don’t you can get it from companies like Cincinnati Bell or Time Warner. I use Cincinnati Bell’s Zoomtown service with the provided Westell Modem. However, this should work for all services because it is a general setup procedure.
Step 2: Discover the Network!
Anyway, discovering the network is pretty easy. All you need to do is click “Start”, then “Connect to” in Windows Vista. In Windows XP right-click on the little computer down in the right-hand corner of your screen and then select “veiw availible wireless networks*. You should get a screen that has a list of allthe availible networks in your computer’s range.
Step 3: Connect
Now, its time to connect! double click on your network and you should be connected. However, if your network is encrypter then you need a WEP or WAP key to connect to it**. After doing all of this then you can brows the internet! Happy browsing!
*If you have a Dell Laptop with Windows XP then you need to configure the network with Dell’s software. i will show how to do this in a future weekly tip(under the name Weekly Tip 3.1)
**If you do not know what your WEP key or a WAP key is then contact your Internet Service Provider.
P.S. In order to connect to your wireless internet you must have a wireless card built in to your computer.
P.S.S. Here is a new poll for next weeks tip!

Where can I find weekly tip 3.1?

I have not created a 3.1 of this weekly tip yet. I found that there was not enough to expand on this topic. I add ‘.1′ ect… to tell people that this weekly tip is sort of an expansion on a previous weekly tip. For example, weekly tip 3.1 could come out months after tip 3 because 3.1 would just expand on the info given in 3.
