IPGM Reprise: Internet Browser Showdown!

Posted by jkool13 on June 28, 2008

In the short series IPGM Reprise we bring back old (and I mean OLD) posts that didn’t seem to get enough good light in the early days and re-edit, re-word and update the content of them. So, without furthur ado, here is the reprise of the post ‘”The Wonderful World of Internet Browsers”

The Internet is a great thing. It connects billions of people a day and does it all fabulosly. However, to view the amazing Internet you require an Internet browser. This lets you, well, browse then internet. There are many Internet browsers out there. They all work in different ways so it can be hard to choose one in particular. Below are reviews for the most popular choices of internet browsers today. They are all ranked in order.

#1 Browser: Mozilla FireFox

I was very impressed when I first saw the features on FireFox. The borwser is just now in its 3rd generation and is a great browser!

Pros:

  1. VERY GOOD browser. Lots of Features
  2. Google Toolbar! Huzzah! my favorite browser add-on!
  3. The millions of add-ons and themes makes this a truly customizable browser
  4. Tabbed Browsing makes things easy and organized
  5. Import IE Favorites so there is an easy transition
  6. The 3rd version brings a lot of new features to the Mozilla party and updates on a lot of the previous features for the better

Cons:

  1. Some bugs for the newer version (3)
  2. Can get somewhat cluttered if you have a lot of add-ons
  3. Not all add-ons are supported by version 3

#2 Browser: Safari

Safari 3 is the second greatest browser because of one reason, it doesn’t have add-ons like Firefox. that is the only reason Safari came in second. It is equally as good as Firefox, just not in the add-on field, where it sinks. However, like the FireFox browser it has a bookmarks bar

Pros:

  1. Similar design and layout to Itunes which is good for people who know iTunes
  2. Similar, though not identical, to FireFox
  3. Tabbed browsing
  4. Import IE or FireFox favorites/bookmarks.

Cons:

  1. Tabbed browsing is not easy
  2. No themes
  3. No google toolbar (

#3 Browser: Opera Browser

Opera Browser is a fair browser. It may be a bit sluggish, but its passing.

Pros:

  1. Comes with a nifty little feature called speed dial which can be very useful
  2. Good overall design
  3. Has mail built in
  4. Has many platform options. They include: Wii, Nintendo DS, Cell phones (smart and standard), and of course your PC
  5. Import bookmarks or favorites from another browser

Cons:

  1. The mail can be hard to setup
  2. NO GOOGLE TOOLBAR!
  3. No interchangeable themes
  4. Widgets sometimes get annoying when you click on the web page and they disappear

#4 Browser: IE 7(Internet explorer 7)

Its not the best browser out there. I wouldn’t use this as a last resort more like a low rated browser. Know that there are not many customization options with this browser.

Pros:

  1. It has google toolbar!
  2. Tabbed browsing is super easy
  3. Security can be annoying but is good

Cons:

  1. Its not safe for your computer (viruses)
  2. The little yellow bar that appears when you try to download something or use active X control

So there you have it, the reprised version. Please not that the only review not updated was the Opera browser. I have not used that it a mega long time and I don’t wish to go back.
